Since 1985, over 30 plays developed by Armory Square Playhouse and its predecessor the New Plays Program of Contemporary Theatre of Syracuse have gone on to full productions throughout the US, including Manhattan, Brooklyn, Chicago, Colorado Springs, Los Angeles, Hollywood, Ithaca, Syracuse, and at Keuka College, SUNY College at Oswego and the University of Pennsylvania's Medical Education Program.
One script was a winner of the 28th Samuel French Off Off Broadway Festival and was published by Samuel French. Another received a Canadian Broadcasting Company award for best short radio play. One became a radio play presented by WRVO-FM; another script was turned into an award-winning film done at Cayuga Community College. A performance art piece was presented throughout the U.S. and Canada in 1992.
Occasionally we present new plays by our members. This past summer we produced Jeff Kramer's 'Lowdown Lies' at Redhouse. The full length comedy--which started life as a one-act reading in 2006--played to sold-out houses during its first two-week run. It was brought back by popular demand for an additoinal two weeks. We have also done plays by members David Feldman, Len Fonte and Charles Lupia.
